Pruning Tips

  • Grasses
All grasses should be pruned during dormancy. The best time to prune during dormancy is early spring before new growth begins, usually mid March.
  • Shrubs
The best time to prune a shrub is during the months of November through March. A good rule of thumb for pruning shrubs is to remember these holidays: Thanksgiving through St. Patricks Day is an ideal time period for maintaining shrubs!
  • Trees
Pruning most trees should be completed while the tree is dormant. The best time to prune a tree is anytime after the first hard freeze through mid March.
